Ancient World History 6th grade

Welcome! 6th grade World History with Mr. Thomas

Hello. My name is Mr. Thomas and I’m very excited about being your son or daughter’s history teacher So welcome to the exciting subject of 6th Grade Ancient History. Our focus this year is to visit the vast ancient civilizations that helped create our modern-day world. We will begin our study by learning about what historians, geographers, archeologists, and anthropologists do. Next, we will look at the Stone Ages and their development into civilizations. From there, we will visit Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel, India, China, Greece, and Rome! Each civilization study will incorporate 6 essential elements of all early civilizations: Geography, Religion, Achievements, Politics, Economy, and Social Structure. This will be referred to as the GRAPES of civilization. Pack your bags and get ready for an adventure!

This year I will be using a blended method of teaching where technology and traditional learning are blended together. In class the students have a traditional text book, however they also have an online text that the can access at school or at home.  We are a technology school, so students can bring their own technology to use with the permission of their teacher. There are many online resources that students can access on the V portal. They will learn more about this in the coming weeks. For the traditional approach students will keep an interactive notebook for ancient history. This will be used every day and is important to keep track of. A 1 inch three ring binder and loose-leaf paper will be necessary. If you need to get Intouch with me my e-mail address is mfthomas@volusia.k12.fl.us. Student’s will be starting their social studies project’s in November and may need supplies for that. The following is a basic list of supplies for everyday in history class. Also I have included a graphic that shows the flow of what we will be learning about through the year. Well, I look forward to a great start of the school year, and again feel free to e-mail me.
